When my brother Paul and I founded Prestige Nursing & Care Manchester 15 years ago, we had absolutely nothing but hope.
No carers. No staff, we didn’t even have an office. What we did have was ambition — unfortunately ambition alone doesn’t pay the bills!
But hope is a big thing and we jumped into the care business because we saw a need, and we wanted to make a difference. But the reality of starting a business from scratch doesn’t look like the success stories you hear about. There was no shiny website, no massive client list, no systems in place. It was just us—two brothers—with a phone, a franchise agreement, and a determination to stay afloat.
After taking on the three ABI clients, we knew we had to make a decision. We could keep doing what we were doing—general care, taking on whatever came our way. Or we could double down on something we were now deeply invested in: complex care and rehabilitation.
Once we made that decision, everything started to align. Our team grew stronger. Our clients saw that we were serious about what we were doing. We built relationships with healthcare providers, learned from specialists in the field, and began to create a reputation for high-quality, compassionate care for people with some of the most complex and challenging needs out there.
Since 2009 we’ve never looked back, at least not as often as if we hadn't have taken a chance. The decision to specialize in complex care and rehabilitation was the one that truly defined us. We’ve continued to focus on Acquired Brain Injury (ABI), spinal injuries, and other complex needs because we’ve seen the difference it can make.
This work isn’t for everyone. It’s challenging. It’s messy. It requires long hours, a lot of patience, and a commitment to going the extra mile. But we believe it’s the kind of care that makes a real impact. And if there’s one thing we know for sure, it’s that when you do what matters—when you focus on helping people who need it most—the rest follows.
We’re not in this for the easy wins. We’re in it to make a difference. And every day, that’s exactly what we do.
